Designing VIDIZMO's Digital Evidence Management System: My UX Contribution from Inception to Completion

As a UI/UX designer at VIDIZMO, I contributed to enhancing the user experience of the Digital Evidence Management System (DEMS). This case study outlines the design challenges, solutions, and outcomes of that project.
VIDIZMO's DEMS is a secure, centralized platform that enables law enforcement and public safety agencies to ingest, store, manage, analyze, and share digital evidence from various sources, including body-worn cameras, dashcams, and CCTV footage
Design Challenges
- Complex User Workflows: Users needed to perform multiple tasks, such as uploading evidence, managing access controls, and analyzing data, within a single platform.
- Data Security and Compliance: Ensuring the platform met stringent security standards and compliance requirements, such as CJIS and FIPS, was critical.
- Integration of Advanced Features: Incorporating AI-driven functionalities like facial recognition and automatic transcription required intuitive design to facilitate user adoption.
Design Process
- User Research: Conducted interviews and surveys with law enforcement personnel to understand their workflows, pain points, and requirements.
- Wireframing and Prototyping: Developed wireframes and interactive prototypes to visualize solutions, focusing on simplifying complex workflows and ensuring ease of use.
- Usability Testing: Performed usability tests with target users to gather feedback, iterating on designs to address identified issues and enhance user satisfaction.
Design Solutions
- Streamlined User Interface: Created a clean and intuitive interface that allows users to navigate between tasks seamlessly, reducing cognitive load and improving efficiency.
- Robust Access Controls: Designed user role management features enabling administrators to define access levels and permissions, ensuring data security and compliance.
- AI Feature Integration: Developed user-friendly interfaces for AI functionalities, such as facial recognition and transcription, providing clear instructions and feedback to facilitate user adoption.
Outcomes
- Improved User Satisfaction: Post-launch surveys indicated a significant increase in user satisfaction, with users appreciating the streamlined workflows and intuitive design.
- Enhanced Efficiency: Users reported a reduction in time spent on evidence management tasks, allowing them to focus more on critical aspects of their work.
- Compliance Assurance: The platform successfully met all required security and compliance standards, ensuring data integrity and user trust.
Conclusion
The design of VIDIZMO's Digital Evidence Management System resulted in a user-centric platform that effectively addresses the needs of law enforcement and public safety agencies. By focusing on user research, iterative design, and usability testing, we delivered a solution that enhances efficiency, ensures security, and promotes user satisfaction.
